Columbus Day weekend Mya and I decided to head up to the Whites for a Presidential Traverse. It was a beautiful, slightly chilly weekend, hardly any clouds aside from the morning fog, which was so thick that it could easily be mistaken for a calm lake.
The Traverse includes 9 summits on NH’s 48 4000 footer list, with the iconic Mt Washington smack in the middle. Mya and I had a blast running up all of them.
According to Wikipdia the “Presidential Traverse is a strenuous and sometimes dangerous trek over the Presidential Range of New Hampshire’s White Mountains.” The weather was in our favor this weekend, no need to turn around at the big yellow warning sign as you approach Washington’s summit.
The summit of Washington was crowded with tourists as I expected, but that didn’t take away from the beauty and awesomeness of the mountain. It was also a nice relief when I found the snack shack and grabbed some yummy veggie chili to warm me up and fuel me for the next 4 summits.
The terrain was rough and rocky above tree line, but Mya showed no signs of slowing down as she jumped from rock to rock. Man this dog can climb mountains!
